UN Human Rights Mechanisms

Eric Tistounet is the Former Chief of the Human Rights Council Branch at the Office of the United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Human Rights.

Since joining the UN in 1987, Mr Tistounet served inter alia as Secretary of various UN treaty bodies, in particular, the UN Human Rights Committee, as External Relations Officer, and as Chief of Cabinet of the High Commissioner.

He was appointed as the last Secretary of the UN Commission on Human Rights in 2003 and the first of the UN Human Rights Council in 2006. During a recent sabbatical leave at the Geneva Academy, he wrote a comprehensive textbook entitled ‘The UN Human Rights Council: A Practical Anatomy’, published by Elgar Publishing in February 2020.
