Military Briefings

Two U.S. Soldiers walk out of a building Two U.S. Soldiers walk out of a building

3 October 2016

This unique series of events aims to improve Geneva Academy students’ knowledge of military actors and operations and build bridges between the military and civilian worlds with the ultimate goal of improving compliance with the law.

Starting October 2016, we will welcome military guests at the Villa Moynier (on active duty, retired or from the reserve) to discuss military institutions, their missions as well as operational and legal challenges they face in their daily work.

Six themes will be addressed in the course of the series:

I. Military organization and operational decision-making
II. Operational law
III. Integration of the law in military training
IV. Practical examples of legal challenges in operations
V. Military justice
VI. Weapons systems

Each briefing will be divided into two parts: a presentation part aimed at equipping students with basic knowledge on the selected theme, and a discussion part, where the guest speaker will engage with students on the challenges raised by the theme.

This initiative is coordinated by Elvina Pothelet, Teaching Assistant at the Geneva Academy (elvina.pothelet[at]geneva-academy.ch).

The Military Briefings are open to Geneva Academy’s students only.
