Joie Chowdhury

Senior Attorney, CIEL Climate & Energy Program

Joie Chowdhury (she/her) is a Senior Attorney (Climate Litigation and Accountability) in the Climate & Energy Program at the Center for International Environmental Law. Before joining CIEL, Joie worked at the International Network for Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ESCR-Net). She first joined their strategic litigation program team, and then established and coordinated their environment & ESCR program. Prior to that, she worked with several organizations and academic institutions on legal research, fact-finding and advocacy in India, the United States, Kosovo and Switzerland, and has taught courses on international human rights law, comparative constitutional law, and climate justice.

Joie is a member of the State Bar of New York. She has a Master of Laws (LLM) from Columbia Law School, a Master of Arts in International Relations (MALD) from the Fletcher School, Tufts University and a law degree (BA LLB Hons) from India.
