On 1 March 2021, the Iraqi Parliament adopted the Yazidi (female) survivors’ law (YSL), marking a significant milestone in providing much-needed relief to survivors from ethno-religious communities who were targeted by the self-declared Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in 2014–2017.
The passage of this law was not only significant for recognizing and providing redress for the suffering of Yazidis and other ISIL captives in Iraq but also stands as one of the few instances of a nation taking deliberate steps to address the rights and needs of survivors of conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV).
This event, co-organized with the Global Survivors Fund, aims to celebrate and acknowledge the milestones and successes achieved, provide a comprehensive update, and identify challenges and solutions for the effective implementation of the law.
The event will be followed by drinks.
