Our programmes

The LLM-MAS in International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights

With a focus on armed conflicts, this Master in Advanced Studies is designed for law students seeking to deepen their expertise in the intersection of international humanitarian law, human rights law, and conflict-related legal issues. It combines rigorous theoretical frameworks with practical training, equipping students with the skills to navigate complex legal challenges in both conflict and post-conflict settings.

Through rigorous teaching, interactive tutorials, and direct engagement with Geneva’s international institutions, students acquire both solid theoretical grounding and the practical skills required to address the legal and humanitarian challenges of today’s armed conflicts. Thanks to extracurricular activities, they will also benefit from direct connections with leading actors such as the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).

It is designed for graduates aiming to build careers across international organisations working on humanitarian protection, NGOs engaged in promoting and monitoring human rights and IHL, governmental and diplomatic institutions, international and regional courts and tribunals, as well as academic and policy centres focused on conflict, protection and accountability.

The new LLM-MAS in International Crimes, Justice and Human Rights

Launching in 2026–2027, this one-year, full-time LLM Master of Advanced Studies (60 ECTS) in International Crimes, Justice and Human Rights offers a strengthened legal perspective on accountability for international crimes and serious human rights violations, both in transitional and non-transitional contexts.

Building on a decade of experience with the MAS in Transitional Justice, Human Rights and the Rule of Law, this new LLM-MAS reinforces the programme’s legal profile and better reflects its focus on accountability for international crimes, human rights protection and the role of victims. While the title now includes LLM, the academic degree remains a MAS, in line with our other postgraduate programmes.

It is particularly suited for professionals seeking careers across international criminal justice, UN investigative and accountability mechanisms, human rights organisations, governmental bodies, and academic or policy institutions engaged with conflict, justice, and human rights.
